Since we just got back from a little roadtrip south, we took it easy on Memorial Day. We cleaned the patio set, and James outdoor toys to get ready for the summer, and we broke out the backyard grill for the season. Usually we would probably have done it sooner, but it's been in the 50s and 60s all spring. As of Memorial Day we've skipped straight into the 90s. Global warming is very strange.
Kevin grilling hotdogs
Kevin grilled organic chicken sausages and corn on the cob. I have to be careful to say "grilling" instead of "BBQ" now that I'm sufficiently southern to know that "BBQ" is a sacred word. It was nice to just have a little family dinner with just the three of us. Now that James is getting older, he's more of an equal participant.
James watching trains and planes go through our backyard. Really!
They both love corn on the cob!
Speaking of BBQ, another great Memorial Day treat was that our friend Marc Ryan's new show SMOKED! about BBQ premiered on the Destination America channel! If you missed it, don't worry, the pilot is re-airing for a few weeks. Check here for the schedule: http://america.discovery.com/tv-shows/smoked. And we will see Marc and Brooke in less than a month for their wedding! How exciting!
Last year we spent Memorial Day weekend in Cincinnati with Chrissy, Jason, and Owen. The previous year, was James's first Memorial Day and we took him to Brooklyn for Jon and Becky's party. The year before we had James, we took a trip to Niagara Falls and to get buffalo wings in Buffalo, NY.
