Harajuku... Again, Tokyo 2016

I was really determined to go to Harajuku even though it was raining. I'd been hearing about Harajuku's particular fashion for a while and I wanted to check it out myself. It was a Tuesday afternoon so I'm guessing it was a bit more restrained than it might be on a weekend, but I still got a little taste. I didn't photograph people dressed in the style because it was too rude on this narrow street but the posters and stores should give you the idea. Harajuku was way more exciting in the daytime!

Shibuya Late Night, Tokyo 2016

I had Harajuku high on my todo list, so we tried to go there next, but like Akihabara it's a daytime area. We were only there for a minute- resolved to go back the next day, but Andrew did introduce me to their crepe ice cream. I'm not a big fan of crepes as a rule, but these had ice cream inside and were amazing.

Harajuku is in Shibuya but Shibuya is a pretty big ward so we took the train over to the part near the famous Shibuya Crossing. The crossing is famous because it's a huge "pedestrian scramble" or  "diagonal crossing." All car traffic stops and all pedestrians cross the intersection in every direction at the same time.

Crossing at the crossing- the excitement!

Shibuya is like Shinjuku in that it's a really fun area at night full of bars and bright lights. We went to Tasuichi combines a Japanese-style standing bar with an American sports bar. After that we went to a pub and made friends with some Americans from San Antonio. Hi Alana and Will!
