Father's Day 2018

Happy Father's Day to Kevin- patient and wonderfully fun father and husband. Kevin slept in today, and when he got up, the kids showered him with little kid gifts constructed at school. We spent the afternoon at the beach. When we got back and hosed off, Kevin took a little silent hike alone. Hope he enjoyed the day!

Father's Day Weekend 2016

We celebrated Father's Day with Kevin this weekend. Saturday was Family Day and we had a strangely relaxed fun time at the beach. We decided to go, got our stuff quickly and it only took us about 12 minutes to get the beach. The kids had fun and after about 2 hours we came back. No drama!

Sunday was Father's Day, and Kevin slept in, we made him breakfast, and later he took the kids to the playground. A very laid back fun weekend!

Pre-K Donuts with Dad 2016

James's Pre-K hosted a little party with the kids' dads in honor of Father's Day. I wasn't there obviously, so I'll just post the pictures.

Father's Day 2015

Happy Father's Day to seriously the best dad ever, Kevin. Just in numbers alone, he works a full-time job and still spends an average of 8 hours a day with the kids! Yes, that's an insane number. But he's that deeply awesome. Our kids are so lucky to have have two full-time parents. We try to repay you in love.

Happy Father's Day!!

Although he's getting some belated alone hiking, he decided to take us to Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium on Father's Day. The kids loved it.

Also, there was a secret Nature Conservancy walk on the property, St. John's Pond Preserve. You had to know to ask the front desk for a key, and you had to unlock the property gate with said key. Secret garden! It was beautiful with a view of a gorgeous kettle pond.

Father's Day 2014

For Father's Day all Kevin wanted was to go hiking without kids like he did the last couple of years. Haha. But to be fair because he works from home 5 or 4 days a week, and he's on vacation right now, he spends A LOT of time with the kids. And actually he went hiking Saturday morning so he still spent Father's Day Sunday with James and Miranda.  I made Cuban yellow rice and sausage for dinner as a treat.

Love.

This was his first Father's Day as a "Dada" of 2! If you've been following the blog at all you don't need me to tell you what an amazing father Kevin is. He shares equally (or more) in all the parenting. He's the one that does all the fun stuff with them too and most of the reading to them. He can't feed Miranda right now, but that's it. Having 2 kids has just made him twice as a amazing. We love you so much!

Father's Day 2013

We had a fun little Father's Day here. I let Kevin sleep in and made breakfast for the boys. Kevin was awoken by the fire alarm signalling that I was burning said breakfast. Such is life. It was still tasty. James got Kevin a Father's Day card and a t-shirt to commemorate their first trip together to Montauk in 2011. Then Kevin went off for a hike, and some much needed leisure and nature time. Someone on the trail, probably noting the look of blissful freedom on Kevin's face, wished him a Happy Father's Day. He was home early enough to enjoy a Red Sox game from start to finish, and we capped off the evening with Thai food and Mad Men. A very good day!

Father's Day on Bear Mountain 2012

For Father's Day, James made Kevin a card with his hand-print on the cover and a lengthy thank you for all the wonderful fathering he does. Afterwards, we drove upstate so that Kevin could collect his present- 2 baby-free hikes, and 1 family hike.

Kevin went for his first hike on Sunday afternoon, a 4-hour hike up Millbrook Mountain. Then early Monday morning he went for another 2-hour hike up Storm King Mountain. I don't have photos of Kevin hiking, but this is what James and I were doing at the hotel for many hours.

Then Monday after we went to Bear Mountain. We had some trouble finding the summit. Make a note, Foursquare is not a navigation device. When we did, all James wanted to do as stomp around in this little random hole on the mountain. He was not interested in views or greenery, or animal life. No, just a little gravelly hole. And as we all know, James strongly resists holding hands. Not a great personality trait to exhibit on a mountain. So Kevin opted to carry him on his shoulders so he'd stay out of trouble.

Father's Day 2011

James at 7 Weeks + 2 Days 2011

On Saturday, my mother, Kevin, and I honored my father's last wish.  Sunday, I took the nighttime feedings and let Kevin sleep as late as he wanted.  I also had a series of treats for him throughout the day.  But ultimately, I had to crash and nap for a while, so Kevin and James still got to spend lots of quality time today.  I know that James is only (almost) two months old, but so far, Kevin is the best father ever.  He takes care of James, plays with him, listens to him, and tries to teach him (where his hands are).  In the future, I can see a bond forming between the two of them not just based on genes, but on mutual respect and a sense of fun. I love you both very much.
