Girls' Weekend at Dewey Beach 2016
For Girls' Weekend this year we went to Dewey Beach for the Dewey Goes Pink 5K and walk. Ash, Megan, and I were going to do the 5K and Janice and Christina were going to do the walk but poor Christina got sick. We had a lovely roomy Air BnB condo by the beach, which we enjoyed despite the rain. The 5K was scenic, but the best part of the weekend besides the amazing people participating was the after party. Holy cow, Dewey knows how to party. There were mixed drinks, beer, roast pig, mac n' cheese, and cookies, though the cookies went very fast. Live music! Group toasts! Just so much fun and all for a good cause.
We were sad to split up from Janice when she went to the walk area and we went to the walk area. And we were jealous when she texted us that she was already done.
After the race, we met at a designated location so we wouldn't all get lost.
It kept raining on us, so we decided to go back and have Megan's Magic Hurricanes. Which we did. Which then rendered us unable or unwilling to go out and party. But we had a lot of fun at the condo and did ultimately get dressed to go to dinner.
We ended up back at The Starboard for dinner. Dinner was yummy but the hurricanes started catching up with us, and we started feeling ill. So we walked back after dinner, now in the POURING RAIN. We felt grateful it hadn't rained in the 5K. We swear.
Sunday morning, we were recovered, so we went to Greenman Juice Bar & Bistro in Rehoboth, and then we tried to do a little souvenir shopping but everything said Rehoboth so I guess it's just going to be the race shirt. I'm super excited for the next Girls' Weekend. Soon I hope!
Dewey Goes Pink raised $65,000+ this year (Almost $300,000 in the six years it has been held.)
*My Race Stats:
Time: 43:09.9, Pace: 13:55/mile, Place: 888/1207
37 F, Bib #197, Division 30-39 F, Division Place: 116/150
Worse time than last 5K, but the ranking made me feel less bad, haha.

And we're off!
Yes!

There was so much delicious food.
Sorry Porky.
The band was really good.

Heading back post-race with extra Hurricane orange juice.
Next year, if it's not raining, maybe we can drink at the beach?
Post-Hurricane-drinking dressed and posing with Seahorse Christina (we missed you!)

Making pouty faces because Janice went home early because she's a new mom!

Brady Visiting 2016
Brady visited Friday through Sunday. Hurray! We had a Port Jefferson fun day with Miranda on Friday. (Poor James was at school.) We went to C'est Cheese for lunch which was great.

Brady also brought a million delicious beers for our enjoyment.

Saturday the boys watched a lot of football and went for a short hike at a trail near the beach.

Date Interlude- September 2016
We had a brief break on Saturday between Jen's Shower and dinner where Grandma took the kids to Follins Pond and gave us her blessing to run free. So we made a beeline for Devil's Purse Brewery like we did in March and got a beer tasting. After some beer, I got adventurous and suggested we try another brewery. For many years, Cod Cod Beer was the only other brewery around but a quick check on yelp showed that there was another new one now! Off we went to check out Hog Island Brewery.

Hog Island has a really large and lovely set up. This is my new favorite Cape Cod brewery. Looking forward to quality cousin time here over the holidays!

Hanshin Tigers, Osaka Baseball 2016
We went to a baseball game in Japan! This was high on Kevin's to do list, but when we were planning our trip I initially rolled my eyes. We bought tickets to a game at the end of the week though and it ended up being perfect because the main thing to do in Osaka is eat all the food (so good!) and by the end of the week my feet were just giant agony blisters. Sitting and drinking beer was the best plan ever.
Kevin loves baseball and he was pretty excited to be there. Plus it was really interesting to see the differences in an baseball outing. First of all, people were as nice to us as they were anywhere in Japan. Nicer. Someone showed us where to exchange our voucher for a ticket and a random person bought us two whiskey drinks during the game. Woah.
Koshien Stadium is home of the Hanshin Tigers, sometimes called the Osaka Tigers. They were playing the Hiroshima Carp, which really doesn't sound like a sufficiently scary mascot.
Eventually, we got hungry, and the food in the stadium was really strange. Also, each baseball player seemed to be advocating a different dish, so who was I supposed to believe?

I decided to listen to Shintaro Fujinami...
... and get this. It was delicious!
Whiskey from random Japanese guy! Thank you!
Also the Hanshin Tigers have this strange tradition that before the 7th inning everyone gets these provocatively shaped balloons in the color of their team - yellow for Hanshin Tigers and red for Hiroshima Carp- and then they release them at the same time.
Getting ready
Chanting songs and whatnot
Release!

Date Interlude- March 2016
We ran out for a few minutes to a new brewery, Devil's Purse on Cape Cod, while Grandma generously watched the kids. The type of alcohol license they have means that you can do a tasting or you can buy a growler but you can't get a pint. So we did a tasting. A growler isn't going to make it back to New York with us on this trip.

Spanish Tapas- September 2015
This is our 1000th post!
Back in September, Grandma Kathy came to visit during the week, and Kevin and I went on a date night, our second one since we moved here. This time we tried a Spanish tapas place, La Parrilla Spanish Bistro. The "tapas" were actual entree size so we accidentally ordered a lot of food.
We had a lot of serious conversation... about how many kids to have. The final decision appears to be that we are two and through. Which means I need to come over and borrow your babies for snuggling. Let me know when.
After dinner, we walked around Port Jefferson which was mostly empty because it was a rainy Tuesday night. Kevin had been wanting to try Brewology because they have a lot of good beer on tap. Kevin got a Blind Bat Hell Gate and I got a Goose Island Sofie. The bar was also playing the Red Sox, though he politely feigned some disinterest, I told him to go ahead and watch. We tried to stay out as late as possible... we made it to about 9 pm. As James would say, "It was a good try."

Port Jeff Ice Cream and Brewery 2015
We had an exciting day on Wednesday! We enrolled James for late summer camp and pre-school in the fall! Real pre-school! He'll have "academic standards" to meet before kindergarten- actually all stuff he can already do, but still makes it legitimate school.
Kevin's coworker Kristina, and now my one and only friend in town, invited us to go to a summer night Brewery concert. We were psyched. The concert ran into the kids bedtime so to make it more of an event we went early for ice cream. That seemed like a good idea except my kids were pretty much covered in ice cream from head to toe before the concert even started. I basically bathed them and washed their clothes in a random bathroom. True story. Luckily it's summer so it all dried pretty quickly.
The Port Jeff Brewery was having a Summer Music Series, and the band on Wednesday was an Irish music band, Bangers & Mash, so there was some real and some pretend Irish step-dancing in the audience. We met Kristina, her husband Darren, two of her kids, and some of the kids' friends. They aren't pictured because I was trying not to be my usual picture-pushy self so as not to scare them away haha. New friends yay!
